About

Helping Up Mission (HUM) is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1885 to meet the needs of Baltimore City’s and the surrounding counties’ poor and underserved residents. For 137 years, HUM has developed deep roots among the inner city’s poor and homeless, helping countless individuals overcome poverty, homelessness, and addiction. HUM serves up to 540 men and women daily in a range of programs from basic needs to the largest long-term residential recovery program in Maryland at two campuses, with the men located at 1029 E. Baltimore Street and women located at 1216 E. Baltimore Street. HUM is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

A faith-based organization, HUM serves all regardless of religion, belief, or faith tradition, and does not discriminate in providing services.
